Our Art and Design curriculum is shaped by our school vision – ‘To SHINE.’ We aim to deliver a broad and ambitious curriculum, rich in knowledge and skills, which is accessible to all. Our key curriculum intentions that drive our Art and Design curriculum are for pupils to:
- Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms
To achieve our ambitious and demanding Art and Design vision we will be introducing a brand new whole-school curriculum, focused on 3 core strands; Monochromatic, Chromatic and Working in 3D. Our new curriculum for the 2025-2026 academic year, will be supported by a comprehensive vocabulary progression document to empower our teaching staff to inspire, educate and support all pupils to achieve.
At Austhorpe Primary School, it is important to us that all pupils can access and enjoy our Art and Design curriculum, this means that for some children our teaching needs to be sensitively adapted and processes transformed for our learners to explore their creative potentials.
Art is a unique subject that covers a wide range of mediums and skills. In order to truly embrace creativity, we have chosen an assessment pathway that really focuses on a pupils growth as an artist and assesses art through communication and child’s ability to talk about their work, have ownership of it, understand the steps they have taken and confidence in their ability to replicate the skills they have used.
We want to celebrate our artistic and creative children and share their creations. Please visit our Art Blog and enjoy our children's artwork by clicking on the picture below.
